How could it not be? Everyday, we hear more depressing news about the stock market, our retirement savings, our livelihoods and our jobs. We are internalizing all this stress and the sudden shocks to our financial well being may be triggering a more serious anxiety disorder.

So many of us do not realize how stress and worry are affecting us until it is too late and we have had a full blown panic attack or some other crisis. Stopping these problems before they overwhelm you is vital. One of the great ways to relieve mental angst is to attack your physical angst.

We often don´t realize how much worry we are holding on our shoulders. Muscles in your back, shoulders and neck can be turned into knots of worry. While most of us are familiar with these sensations, we often don´t realize that muscles throughout our body are tensing up, responding to our feelings. It is instinctive to preserve ourselves, the survival instinct is alive and well in all of us.

This desire dates back to our caveman ancestors who had to deal with wild animals daily and do things most of us could never contemplate to survive and eat. Along with this valuable instinct comes the fight or flee instinct which determines the best way for us to survive in certain distressing situations. Do we run like crazy or prepare to fight? Either way, your muscles throughout your body tense up in preparation.

Most of us don´t even realize that our body is doing this. We may be upset about a negative review we got, but we aren´t going to run for our lives or attack our boss. Your body doesn´t realize that and tenses up anyway, creating stress and anxiety and fueling potential panic attacks.

A great way to trigger the relaxation response is to try Progressive Muscle Relaxation or PMR. It is a great way to return your anxious body to its normal state. It can provide almost instant relief to an aching body and an overwhelmed mind.

PMR involves tightening your muscles to their fullest extent, filling them with tension. You hold this tightened position for 10 seconds and then release your muscles. Your muscles will return to a looser, freer state than where they started. By doing this to discrete muscle groups throughout your body, you are triggering the relaxation response, the signal that your body is not in danger and that you don´t need to run or fight.

This technique should begin with the right foot, then the right foot and ankle, then the right foot, ankle and lower leg and so forth. You will then need to switch to the other leg and then proceed up the body to the neck, head and face. With practice, you will see positive results to your physiological as well as mental and emotional well being.

The following techniques may help you stop the a panic attack or you may also try this for yourself if you are experiencing the symptoms of a panic attack and are hoping to minimize the effects.

First, relax your shoulders and become conscious of any tension that you may be feeling in your muscles. As silly as it may seem I “internally talk” to myself. I tell my toes to relax and maybe wiggle them then my ankles – moving up my entire body in an attempt to get ecery part of my as relaxed as posible.

Then, with slowly and progressively tense and relax all the large muscle groups. Tighten your left leg with a deep breath in, for example, hold it, then release the leg muscles and the breath. Move on to the other leg. Move up the body, one muscle group at a time.

Try to slow down your breathing. This may best be done blowing out every breath through pursed lips as if blowing out a candle. Also, place your hands on your stomach to feel the rapidity of your breathing. This may allow you to further control your symptoms.

Tell yourself (or someone else if you are trying this technique with someone) that you are not “going crazy.” If you are concerned about not being able to breathe, remember that if you are able to talk, you are able to breathe.

While this technique might help you stave off the worst of a panic attack, or get you through a particularly bad one; it won’t cure your panic attacks. At best, it will help you through a rough time. Doctors has many “tried and true” drugs to prescribe for panic attacks, but most will leave you drowsy and unable to function at your best. I never liked that feeling of going through my days as if I were in a dense fog. Slow and ponderous is how I term it.

Therapy can also help alleviate panic and even cure panic attacks. But it can take many years for the therapy to get to a point where you can do that. So much of panic attacks is caused by stress. Little stresses and big stresses. You seem to be handling it just fine until one day your first panic attack hits, yet you can pinpoint any one thing that triggered this massive response! That’s because there probably ISN’T any ONE thing that is causing it – and that is why therapy can take so long to cure panic attacks.

Joe Barry, a FORMER panic attack sufferer himself, has developed a mechanism to get rid of panic attacks forever – quickly! It’s easy to do and it works!

Unless you know the facts, you may mistake the chest pains that normally accompany panic attacks for a heart attack.

Every year, thousands of people having chest pain, difficulty breathing, pain or numbness in the left arm and tingling throughout the body end up in a hospital emergency room because they believe they are having a heart attack. Typically, a few tests are run, and the patient is sent home because the nature of the attack he or she experienced is one of panic, not coronary.

It’s easy to understand how a panic attack can be mistaken for a heart attack; the two share several common symptoms-with subtle, but recognizable differences. For instance, the chest pain from a heart attack is focused in the center of the chest and is crushing, as if a heavy weight is sitting on top of the chest. It is usually persistent, may radiate to the left arm, neck or back and lasts longer than 5 – 10 minutes. Heart attack victims don’t hyperventilate (unless the person’s fear of heart attack triggers a panic attack), any tingling they experience is usually confined to the left arm, and vomiting is common.

During a panic attack, chest pain is localized over the heart and described as “sharp, and comes and goes. The pain usually intensifies with breathing in and out, and pressing on the center of the chest. Panic attack may cause nausea, but vomiting is rare, and if tingling is present, the entire body tingles. Hyperventilation almost always precedes a panic attack. Using deep breathing techniques dispel this and combined with relaxation exercises, other panic attack symptoms disappear in less than 5 minutes. If the location of the pain moves to the center of the chest, doesn’t go away within 10 minutes, is accompanied by more than one incident of vomiting or diarrhea, or goes away and returns a few minutes later, you should immediately get medical attention.

Panic attacks don’t cause heart disease, and some experts say that they actually affect the heart similarly to the way cardio exercise does, by causing the release of adrenaline, increasing the heart rate, and expanding blood vessels. On the same note, heart disease doesn’t cause panic attacks, although a person with a history of panic attacks who is actually having a coronary may also panic for fear of worsening the heart damage, dying or being disabled.

Using the correct techniques and exercises, you can learn to control panic attack symptoms. I’m one of those with anxiety/panic disorders who have benefited from these practices. I’ve learned to overcome the symptoms of panic attack and differentiate them from heart attack symptoms. It takes practice to control panic attack symptoms, but if you learn to recognize the difference between panic and heart attack signs, and you know that what you’re experiencing is only a panic attack, they’ll be much easier to deal with.

If you want to learn more about heart attacks and how to deal with panic attacks, there is a great amount of information on the Internet. Learning the difference between the two kinds of symptoms makes all the difference in how you react to panic attacks!

Did you know that every 8 seconds someone in the US has a panic attack? True! And sometimes I’m one of them! How about you?

I’ve had panic attacks that have lasted 30 minutes, and was absolutely certain I was having a heart attack! I couldn’t breathe, I had chest and neck pains, my left arm hurt, yet at the same time was numb; how weird is that?. Although I still feel the symptoms of panic attack coming on, from time to time, I’ve learned how to take control of my thoughts and reactions, and have changed my lifestyle to drastically decrease the chances of panic attack. Click Here To find out Step-By-Step how I took control of my Anxiety and Finally Ended My Panic Attacks

Side effects are common with a number of medications that are used to treat panic attacks. It is important when discussing ways to treat panic attacks with your doctor that you discuss all the possible side effects before taking any medications.

It is also a good idea to allow for an adjustment period so that you can find out what side effects the particular medication you are taking for panic attacks treatment. It is also important if you are taking medication to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or may become pregnant. Most of these medications can be past on to a fetus and have an effect on development.

There is also psychotherapy, which make work wonders for people who do not want to attempt medication or who are unable to take it for health reasons. There are very effective panic attacks treatment options in the realm of psychotherapy. In fact, even if you are taking medication many times you will find that therapy is also recommended as a way to cure panic attacks.

There are a number of different ways that psychotherapy can help with overcoming panic attacks. The first is to learn the thought process that is created in the situations right before a panic attack or during one. What causes them and what is the person suffering from the attack thinking right before. By finding these patterns out you can change the thought pattern or shift away from the thoughts, which may trigger the attacks simply by being aware of them.

Other things that may be used for panic attacks treatment is the use of behavioral modifications. This is the introduction of breathing and relaxation techniques as well as increasing the exposure the sufferer has to the situations and triggers, which cause the panic attacks. Work is also usually done on the emotions that are created right before, during and after panic attacks.

Often time a combination of medication and therapy will be employed. The medication used to treat the symptoms while the therapy is used to resolve the underlying issues, which are causing the problem in the first place. In fact, the combination panic attacks treatment often has a 70-90% success rate. This means that 70-90% of the people who suffer from panic attacks and engage in this treatment end up seeing a reduction or prevention of their panic attacks.

Sufferers of panic attacks may want to consider alternative panic attack treatment options as supplements to traditional treatments. These are things like exercise, relaxation practices such as yoga or Tai Chi. They may also want to try avoiding certain types of foods and substances that can cause a panic attack to increase in severity.

There are also other mental health issues such as depression that can be associated with panic attacks and need to be looked at when seeking out panic attacks treatment options.

Wouldn’t we all love to go back to our childhood at Christmas? The excitement and anticipation of Christmas, the gifts Santa will bring and the eating of goodies not always allowed during the year. For adults however, Christmas can be a time of stress and anything but jolly. And too much stress can lead to us experiencing panic attack symptoms.

Can we afford the bikes the kids want? How can we attend the children’s nativity play and the work function on the same night? You love the in-laws but just how long are they going to stay? There’s not enough time…..

Rushed buying can mean that you end up with gifts and food that you can’t really afford. Presents means credit card payments and extra debt. Celebrating comes to mean laboring in the kitchen over a hot stove.

While a certain amount of stress can be helpful by challenging us and keeping us motivated too much can lead to a panic attack. This is when the body feels under threat and goes into fight or flight mode and can be triggered by something as simple as a phone call at the wrong time. Symptoms may include increased heart rate, rapid breathing, tense muscles and hypertension. Emotions may be piqued and include irritability, anger, losing your temper, yelling and lack of concentration.

If you suffer from a panic attack try to calm yourself by stopping what you are doing, drop your shoulders, breathe out and stop for about 10 seconds, then normal breathing in for a count of three and out for a count of four.

Planning is vital at Christmas. Make yourself a list and check it more than twice. List what must be done and what you would like to, do but is not essential. Make sure you do the important things first – shopping and meal planning. Get someone else to do the things you don’t enjoy so much and share the load.

Make sure you take care of yourself by getting some regular exercise, eat fresh fruit, take a long bath and ‘don’t burn the candle at both ends’. Try to get some relaxation each day until Christmas and when the day comes around enjoy the moment, hopefully free of any panic attack symptoms.

Anxiety and panic attacks may be two completely different issues, but they can definitely combine to create anxiety panic attacks. While either of these conditions can become an issue for someone if the symptoms go beyond what is considered to be normal anxiety, one feeding into the other is a completely new set of problems. It is at this point that the sufferer needs to seek treatment.

The way this normally works is that a person becomes anxious about something, or maybe several things. If the concern is very strong, it has a tendency to produce anxiety, which can lead into anxiety panic attacks. While the anxiety is not always a bad thing, it can become so if the focus is purely on being anxious and concerned about the situation. The anxiety grows, giving it room to escalate into a feeling of panic. This is the panic that will cause a full blown panic attack.
Of course, the best way to fight these off is to figure out the source of the anxiety. While knowing what is making a person anxious can certainly help, it may not completely remove the nervousness surrounding the issue. If the anxiety cannot be controlled, it only gets worse. This is the reason for most anxiety panic attacks.

To control anxiety, it is often necessary to seek the help of a healthcare professional who is trained specifically in treating anxiety disorders and panic attacks. The goal of these professionals is to find a way to help you control the symptoms as well as possibly gaining an insight into why the anxiety persists. Part of this process usually includes prescribing an anti anxiety medication of some kind. Together, the two of you will work to find the proper dosage that will work best for you in fending off your anxiety.

Other methods that are available to help control your anxiety panic attacks come from natural or herbal remedies. There are professionals in this area, as well, who can assist you in finding what will be more effective for you. They will most likely instruct you in the use of relaxation techniques such as meditation that will help calm and balance those anxious thoughts. When you are feeling calm, it is rather difficult to give into anxiety that may bring on an attack.

Whatever path you travel to find relief for your anxiety panic attacks, it is best to remember that what works for one person may not always work for another. Your situation is unique and, therefore, needs its own treatment in order for you to find peace from these life altering symptoms. Always know that you can find the proper treatment with effort.

Also called Panic Disorder, many people suffer from this to varying degrees. Depending on how serious your panic attacks are, you will find something that fits each level of seriousness. Healthcare professionals who treat this disorder fully believe that each person can experience a complete recovery from the symptoms.

The very first step in recovering from panic disorder is the diagnosis. You can’t treat something if you don’t know what it is. Once the diagnosis is made, the appropriate panic therapy can be started. It takes dedication and self discipline for treatment to have the desired effect.

A popular method of treatment for Panic Disorder follows a 6 step plan. The steps are as follows:

1. Education: In order to overcome your panic attacks, it is important that you understand just what they are and what can trigger them. Many times just having an understanding of what is going on can be the biggest help of all.

2. Physical: There are some things you can do for yourself in the physical sense that can calm and balance your body during panic therapy. These include aerobic exercise, a healthy diet, a warm bath, and possibly a soothing tea such as chamomile.

3. Meditation: This includes any method of relaxation that calms you, whether it is actual meditation, prayer, visual techniques, or relaxation techniques.

4. Cognitive-behavioral therapy or CBT: This is the only form of panic therapy that is widely proved as effective for panic disorder. It has been studied by many top university researchers and its effectiveness is well documented. CBT teaches ways to handle panic attacks.

5. Medication: Finding the right form and dosage of medication can make all the difference in the world when it comes to panic therapy.

6. Big Life Issues: This is the process of identifying and healing from life issues that are related to your panic attacks.

This 6 step program to controlling panic attacks has proved to work for many people who suffer from this often debilitating disorder. Of course, working with a professional can make the entire process easier and faster in succeeding. Someone who battles the threat of panic attacks on a daily basis will welcome the knowledge that there IS help in the form of panic therapy, and that is DOES work.

It is no fun to experience the feelings of anxiety that can easily escalate into a panic attack. Here are some tips for overcoming panic attacks:

(1) Recognize that that is what is happening to you. Once you realize that you’re not “losing your mind” or having a heart attack, you can start to realize that it’s not nearly as serious as what you thought might be happening to you. This can ultimately lead to your ability to mentally cope with the attack and overcome it.

(2) Be prepared. Formulate a plan ahead of time and you may be able to cope with your symptoms and reduce the number of panic attacks you have.

(3) Some tips for overcoming panic attacks will work well for certain people and not as well for others.

(4) Learn and practice breathing exercises. When you are able to control your breathing you may be able to lessen or avoid a panic attack.

(5) If you have trouble learning a breathing exercise, make an appointment with a behavioral therapist.

(6) Try relaxation techniques. As with breathing exercises it is important that you learn and practice them before you have a panic attack.

(7) Make lists and keep one at home and one with you.

(a) A telephone support list: This list will contain the names and phone numbers of people who you can call when you are having a panic attack.

(b) The list of distractions: This list will have all kinds of things that have helped you in the past when you were having a panic attack. You can also update the list when you try other distractions and find out that you enjoy them.

(c) A list of coping statements: Make a list of coping statements that you can read while having a panic attack. These should be statements that counteract negative thoughts that creep in during a panic attack.

For a completely natural approach to eliminating 100% of anxiety and panic attacks within minutes, please visit http://www.overcome-panic-attacks.info/
