A cycle of slow respiration each 6 seconds It is the most useful technique to stop a panic attack.

Apply this to the first symptom to prevent panic attack. Do not hold your breath. Remind to breathe slowly!

How the diaphragmatic respiration will slow down your respiration more rapidly?

Pay attention as babies breathe. They obtain a peak of efficiency of your bellows with a bathypnea (deep breath). In order to see if you breathe deeply, locate a hand in he stomach, put the other one on the top superior of your chest. Inhale deeply, if the hand on your abdomen moves first, his diaphragm is working well. If the hand of your chest’s topside moves first ( or if both made it ) you have a poor respiration. Under stress or with panic attack signs only you will obtain of the 2/3 to the 1/2 of your oxygen needs.

Sign and your front resting for be more than enough their hands. Compare your normal style to breathe with the diaphragmatic way that this exercise forces. It is virtually impossible to breathe in form incorrect if your upper muscles are stressed at this position . If you feel your respiration different, you have been breathing of a distressed mode. Practice the stomach respiration, leaning upon your backs, next seated, standing and while you make your everyday things, and next under soft stress. You would move the upper part of your chest very little. Do this periodically every some weeks, until it becomes automatic.

The muscles of your chest will become shorter and the of the ones of the stomach will relax, it is normal. Only two bathypneas will descend also your pressure. The stomach respiration makes you easier decreasing when you almost feel panic attack signs . The stomach respiration will allow you using the two third parts of their lungs instead of your upper third part. Bigger volume means minor effort to minor respiration. To decrease respiration is fundamental to avoid panic attacks. There exists a couple of advantages with lower respiration : the fatigue of the muscles of the chest goes down. It is not the depth of respiration as such that calms. Simply allows you breathing slower. Do not worry very much if you don’t master this technique as once. Get focused in breathing slowly, still if keep on using the top of his chest. These advices do not substitute at all his Medical first evaluation to deal with panic attacks .

As you can probably tell by now, done regularly every day, diaphragmatic respiration can help you coping with panic attacks, because doing so will calm you down and give you peace of mind.

Your initial panic attack can be incredibly scary and confusing. You don’t know if it’s your heart, your brain, your ears, your lungs or whatever the case may be.

Once you’ve been diagnosed and you know it’s not serious, the confusion may subside, but it’s still very scary. However, you won’t require first aid of any kind, providing it’s just a panic attack and nothing else.

Make Sure You Have No Other Condition

It’s very important to make sure there is no serious underlying condition. Though panic attacks are frightening, they are not life-threatening. However, they can feel like a heart attack, or other serious conditions.

There may be difficulty in breathing. A person who has asthma and panic attacks are in a dilemma. Is it this, or is it that? There seems to be a link between asthma and panic attacks.

Under these circumstances, YES, you will require first aid of some kind. Asthma and heart attacks are life-threatening situations. The problem with panic attacks is, they mimic serious conditions.

If you are healthy and have no other serious medical issues, then a panic attack will require reassurance from a stranger, or relaxation on your part (though it’s not easy, and it has to be learned).

Help For Panic Attacks

If you get a panic attack and are still terrified, then concentrate on your breath. Slow everything down. Breathe through your nose. Imagine the air going into your tummy. Exhale slowly through your mouth.

If you can, tense your muscles and then let go gently. This can relax your body. The most important thing is your breathing though. If you must do one thing, then do just this.

If a stranger tries to help, tell them what it is. Let them know that they need not call anyone. Don’t feel shy. Ask them to wait a few seconds with you and ask them to help calm you down.

Tell them to help you relax. Listening to them ‘as if they were a coach’ can help you through the attack. There’s nothing wrong in asking, and most people will oblige.

A panic attack and first aid can appear to be a natural combination. With experience, and knowing it’s a panic attack and nothing else, you won’t really require first aid treatment.

A panic attack is borne mentally. In some form, the situation can be classified as a form of mental disorder. But do not get it wrong. A panic attack is not at all leading and directly related to insanity. A patient r sufferer from a panic attack may seem like he or she is going crazy and uncontrollable. Understand that a panic attack is a product of too much anxiety and fear taking over one’s overall personality. Stop panic attack by observing the following.

Control yourself

First, if you suspect you are having an episode of panic attack, hold control of yourself. Paranoia and extreme fear is part of the manifestations of panic attack. In most cases, patients feel breathless, restless and really tense. At its worse, panic attack often induces a feeling as if death is near. Thus, there is extreme and further fear. In such cases, overall relaxation and self assurance would be necessary. Stop panic attack from further doing harm to yourself by relaxing at the onset of an attack. Meditate, practice quietness and simply relax.

A panic attack may last a few minutes to as long as several hours. To ensure yourself, it would help if you would seek medical and expert help. Doing so is not just ensuring safety but is also psychologically giving assurance that everything will be alright. Often, panic attack patients mistake their attacks for something else, probably a heart attack. This suspicion might further affect and worsen the condition. If an expert or doctor would give assurance that the condition is only panic attack, the patient may be more assured that everything is controllable.

Medications and therapies

There are also certain prescribed medications that will instantly prompt treatment. You could abruptly stop panic attack by taking in prescribed medicines, usually depressants, like serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazpines and monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Such depressants help lower the rapid heart beat that is greatly contributing to further onset and possible setbacks of panic attacks.

Also, stop panic attacks by avoiding alcohol, illicit drugs and most especially coffee, especially when there is already an onset of the episode. Some people commit the error of taking in such substances at the appearance of initial symptoms of panic attack, wrongly thinking that hot coffee, for example, can relax and warmth the system. Well, now you know the opposite happens.

Another good way to stop panic attack is by taking psychotherapy. Because the number of panic attack cases is rapidly rising all over the world, there are many psychologists and psychiatrists who are practicing activities to control and curtail panic attacks. Stop panic attack by subjecting yourself from such therapies, which have already been proven to be very helpful.

Most of all, the most effective means to stop panic attack is by taking a better grasp and control of yourself. If you could control your fears and anxieties, you are most likely to stop panic attack alone. Remember that medications and therapies would render futile if you would not seek to help yourself most of all.

It doesn’t even need a reason to hit you. Although excessive stress can trigger a panic attack, it is completely random most of the time.

However, once you experience the first panic attack, the body will be put on “alert” status and the chances of having another attack is increased. This becomes a problem if panic attacks occur again and again.

An important contributor to the occurrence of further panic attacks is related to where the first one occurred. For most, it happens in a place where they cannot escape easily: for example, in a train, bus, taxi, elevator, building. For example, if the panic attack occurred during a bus ride, chance are, you would be quite nervous during your next bus ride as you think panic attack might hit you again. The more nervous you are, the more likely another panic attack will happen.

With your initial experience with panic attack, you will most probably try to escape before you feel the attack coming on. Once out of the bus, the panic feeling subside and your worst fear is confirmed. You associate bus ride to your panic attack. A few more experiences confirms this and you avoid taking a bus altogether.

What I have just explained is a typical example of the development of panic attack and it can be applied to any situation. You have a panic attack at a particular place or situation. You link it to that place or situation and avoid it.

The main culprit here is fear. The fear and anxiety of having a panic attack causes it to happen. Panic attack feeds on fear and anxiety. The more your fearful of it happening, the harder and faster it will hit you. In order to control a panic attack and stop it forever, you need to attack its roots – fear.

The most effective way to stop panic attack forever is to KNOW that you will not be harmed. A large part of the fear comes from the fact that the sufferer thinks he is about to die, which is totally untrue!

Here’s a few FACTS about panic attack:

-Panic attack CANNOT cause heart attack

-Panic attack CANNOT cause suffocation

-Panic attack CANNOT make you faint

-Panic attack CANNOT cause you to go mad/crazy

Doesn’t feel like it? But its true! There more than enough medical evidence to prove all these. The symptoms feel unnatural because its a panic response from the body, your not suppose to feel it unless your in danger – which your not! Panic attack is the result of this “panic alarm” going off for the wrong reason. Use this knowledge to your advantage, KNOW that you are safe and panic attack cannot harm you. Don’t fear panic attack…and certainly don’t fear having one!

Physical symptoms associated with a panic attack include dizziness, a feeling of choking, feelings of faintness, clammy hands, racing heart, and severe shaking.

Millions of people each year all over the world suffer from panic attacks. The majority of these people are more likely to experience a panic attack because their bodies carry the gene for anxiety disorders. Some statistics show that a person who has a parent who has ever suffered from a panic attack is seven times more likely to also experience a panic attack than the general population.

Scientific research into the reasons for a panic attack show that a large percentage of those who are likely to experience a panic attack carry the gene dubbed DUP25.

Scientists have discovered that this panic attack gene creates proteins that play an important role in the way the nervous system cells communicate with each other. They suspect that this imbalance is what makes the brain so oversensitive that it brings on a panic attack is those that carry the gene.

That said, studies have also shown that not every single person who carries the panic attack gene DUP25 is guaranteed to suffer from a panic attack or any other anxiety disorder.

A panic attack can also be brought on for reasons other then hereditary reasons. A panic attack – or numerous, repeated panic attacks — can be brought on by a traumatic life event or drug misuse. There are statistics that show that eight percent of those who have experienced a panic attack have had one or more because of drug misuse.

Other statistics suggest that those more likely to experience a panic attack are people who suppress their emotions.

Anyone who has ever experienced a panic attack explains that it can happen anytime or anywhere. A panic attack can happen when the person is alone or with others. It can happen at home or in public. A panic attack can even happen when a person is waking up from a sound, restful sleep.

Those most likely to experience a panic attack are women in their young adult years. About half of those who experience panic attacks do so before the age of 24.

People who seek treatment of panic attacks will find relief from them within a few weeks. And although experiencing a panic attack is highly unpleasant, there are no long-term side effects once treatment has been completed and if it is maintained.

Even with treatment, it is still possible for the occasional relapse. This means that it is possible for a person to experience another panic attack or two if he or she is undergoing treatment. But possible relapses can further be reduced by adding stress-relieving activities like yoga to your daily schedule.

A panic attack can come out of nowhere. Suddenly you can feel a discomfort or rapid heart beat in your chest, tingling in the arms and face, shaking, chills, dizzyness and possibly a fear of dying. These feelings are almost like being carried along on a wave, here your feet don’t touch the bottom and there is no way to stop it. Once you have this type of experience then you live in fear of having it again, and that it may be even more powerful the next time it happens. Anytime that you experience a strong feeling, good or bad, it can make a vivid impression on your mind that’s hard to change.

The first thing to remember is that no matter how powerful it feels, you won’t faint or die from a panic attack, it really can’t physically harm you. You need to ride out the feelings, a lot like being on a roll-a-coaster, and breathe slowly. Find a place to sit down and slowly breathe out a little longer then you breathe in, that keeps you from hyperventilating. An attack only lasts up to 5-10 minutes and normally the people around you can’t even tell that you’re having one. Keep your head and you can overcome any panic attack.

Feeling in control of a panic attack can mean you experience the powerful feelings and know that it can’t hurt you, then you no longer fear the experience. Once you can feel in control then you can work on the underlining causes that set you up for the panic attack in the first place. Anxiety is just fear that hasn’t got a name, so you can’t find a concrete way to deal with it.

A lot of people are use to having a sudden panic attack and can recognize the symptoms, but many aren’t knowledgeable about how to control a panic attack. If you find yourself facing this with someone at home, make sure you’re not automatically assuming the symptoms are indicative of previous attacks. Emergency room personnel and doctors face this situation when people are brought in to the hospital emergency area with these kinds of symptoms.

There are a couple of easy techniques that can help you show someone how to take charge of their panic attack, when you are becoming anxious and losing your own self control. These are techniques that anyone who deals with anxiety disorders can use for themselves.

Tip 1

It is important to get your shoulders to relax. Turn the attention to any tension that’s in any of the smaller muscle regions, and follow that up with doing the same to the larger muscle groups, using physical pressure lightly if you need to. Start with a deep breath, tightening your left leg as you breath in, and then hold the breath as well as the leg muscles. When you release your breath do the same with the leg muscles, and note how the breath helps to loosen those tight leg muscles. Then repeat the process with your right leg.

Tip 2

Try slow, measured breathing, expelling each breath completely, with your hands placed on your stomach to be aware of the pace of your breathing. When this procedure is followed it gives greater control of the panic. You will want to get a conversation going with someone, or even talk to yourself, to show that if you can at least speak you are also able to breath. These little things can be vital to the person trying to find out how to control a panic attack. However, if there are other symptoms that suggest a possible heart attack, these procedures will not be the approach you want to use. Any symptoms of a more serious nature need to have immediate attention from licensed medical personnel.

It seems panic attacks seldom last more than 45 minutes to an hour. Most of the time, by the time everyone reaches the doctor’s office or hospital, the person is feeling better. There are times, after the attack has been diagnosed, the person who had the attack is surprised to find out there is no medication prescribed. It is often a relief for someone to find out they can learn these various techniques that will work well in dealing with their anxiety before it escalates into an over the top, full-blown panic attack. When a person is prone to anxiety disorders, it’s important to treat the panic disorders or depression symptoms.

If a doctor prescribes medication, it has been shown in clinic trials that SSRIS is able to reduce the number of panic attacks by 75% to 85%. Today there are a variety of medications on the market that are extremely effective for treating panic attacks. You just need to make sure the medications being taken are done by prescriptions received from a doctor.

If your doctor puts you on SSRIS it can take three to six weeks before it has any effectiveness in the reduction of panic attacks. There are times when sedation is suggested, but if it’s used too much the side effects can be severe. There are times when the anxiety just gets completely out of control, and a person feels fear and a sense of dread without any reason. This is the type of anxiety that can completely disrupt people’s lives. Any anxiety disorder that is constant, and not actually related to a certain situation or event, is referred to as generalized anxiety disorders.

First, get to your family doctor as soon as you can for a check-up to make sure there aren’t any underlying medical issues that are contributing to your anxiety and panic.

Second, come to an understanding of what anxiety and panic attacks are all about. Believe it or not, most anxiety related symptoms are totally under your control. You can control what you think about and how you respond to those thoughts. It might take some time to bring your thoughts under control to get some relief, but it can be done. Just don’t get frustrated if progress is slow.

Third, try to understand that there are people, events and things in your life you can’t control. Try to not dwell on these issues. For example, you can’t change what you did or what happened to you yesterday or last month. Try your best to forget about the past and focus on the future. Some parts of your future can be controlled, but your past is gone forever. Don’t dwell on your past mistakes or think too much about what you could have done differently. Obviously, we need to learn from our mistakes so we don’t repeat them in the future, but we don’t need to be preoccupied with how things turned out–we need to spend more time improving our processes so our results will be better next time. Just working with this simple idea can provide some panic attack relief.

Fourth, try to find ways to calm yourself in situations where you feel panic and anxiety coming on. One of the most important things I can do is to mentally give in to my anxiety. Sometimes the act of giving in to my attacks can actually bring relief. I used to tense up and make matters worse when I felt panic was going to be an issue. Now when I don’t try to fight off an attack I find it easier to start to calm myself down and avoid a full blown attack.

There are many different methods you can use to help calm yourself down. It’s important to use some of these methods every day and not just when you feel extra stress or anxiety.

One thing to try is some breathing exercises. Many of us never fully exhale in any given day, so take three very deep breaths and then exhale just as deeply. Make sure each breath is taken in a measured and deliberate fashion and protract the exhaling as well. You should do this breathing exercise several times each day.

You can also try meditation. You can find some programs that teach meditation or you can just try sitting calmly several times each day and focus your thoughts on pleasant sensations or times in your life. I went on a 10 day cruise on a 30 foot sailboat through the Bahamas several years ago and enjoyed some of the most relaxing times of my life. I particularly remember sleeping on deck one night and waking up the next morning to the sound of waves slapping the side of the boat and a fantastic panoramic view of the ocean. I can remember being very calm and relaxed. When I’m feeling stressed I still can think of my sailboat trip and get some much needed relief.

Try some of these tips and see if they will help you like they’ve helped me.
