Panic Attack Symptoms – Signs That You May Be Having a Panic Attack
Panic attack symptoms – what are the common signs that you are having a panic attack and how do you know that you are not ill in some other way. In this article, I’ll show you how to make your own self diagnosis.
Sudden Onset And Disappearance Of Symptoms
The key thing to look out for is that for all panic attacks, the symptoms come on very, very quickly – often within just a few seconds. A typical attack lasts about half an hour and then symptoms always disappear afterwards. Occasionally the panic attack sufferer thinks that he or she still has some minor symptoms left over but this is usually “somatic” – i.e. all in the mind.
Rapid Heart Beat
Most sufferers report an increased heart rate and a feeling that the heart wants to come out of the chest. It is not uncommon for sufferers to think that they are having a heart attack and they will commonly also feel psychosomatic chest pain.
Dizziness/Fainting
This is a very common symptom. Some people also report a lack of motor coordination and balance problems.
Feeling Like You Are Going To Die
Many sufferers get an intense feeling of fear that they are going to die and although they cannot explain it, it does feel very real to them.
Profuse Sweating
This is very common and a good sign that you have a panic attack (as opposed to some other condition). This is because sweat production increases in the system responsible for panic attacks.
Shortness Of Breath
Again, this is a very common symptom of a panic attack and one that provokes great fear in the sufferer.
